Dear Asheville School Friends:

Project Connect, a conference we hold on our campus about interdisciplinary studies for educators, opens next Wednesday, June 20, with a keynote by Mary Emma Harris, author of the first book about the arts at BMC (published by MIT Press in 1987). (A dinner, catered by 12 Bones, precedes her talk.) The conference will end Friday, June 22, late morning, after a presentation by staff members from Asheville Art Museum (including original materials of co-founder Ted Dreier).

Other highlights are listed in the links below, but allow me to mention that Kathy Leiner is performing Thursday evening downtown. We will dine at Red Ginger Thursday night prior to Kathy’s performance, and Gypsy Queen is providing the lunch on Thursday.

We are excited by the workshops (including Matt and Christine Jones!) and the opportunity to think about a college for whom interdisciplinary ways of thinking and a total integration of the arts were at the core of the student experience.

Please join us. We think we have a conference that will stimulate thinking about the ways we might address the arts in our curriculum as well as strengthen interdisciplinary connections in a unit or class or department. There are many lessons—both positive and cautionary—to be drawn from those who gave their lives to their work at BMC. If you have any interest in BMC, we think you will enjoy the time back on our campus in June.

We hope you are finding your way, finally, into the summer.

Devotedly yours,
Jay Bonner
